Drivetrain Foundation for 1 lb Combat Robots


The SLCR Kits are the result of a collaboration between Turnabot and the Sustainable League of Combat Robotics (SLCR) to create an engaging, affordable, and education-focused robotics platform. SLCR is a hands-on robotics competition league that emphasizes the use of sustainable, affordable materials, with the majority of the combat robots built from 3D-printed parts. SLCR offers a platform for students and educators to engage with STEM concepts by designing and building 1lb Antweight Class robots, competing in events throughout the year. The league promotes learning in areas such as electronics, 3D design, manufacturing, and engineering, while culminating in the annual Plastic Pandemonium competition. Check out SLCR to get more great ideas.

*** Also, please note that last year’s SLCR kits used our High Temp Hardened Shaft (HTHS) spur gearbox N20 motors. This year, the SLCR kits are transitioning to our new planetary gearbox motors.

Initially, the kits will include Planetary N30 (PN30) motors. We are also in the final stages of developing our High Temp Planetary N20 (HTPN20) motors, and the SLCR kits will transition to those motors at a later point.

All Turnabot planetary gearboxes use the same external gearbox dimensions, and robot designs should mount to the gearbox rather than the silver motor can itself. Because of this, any design that properly mounts a PN30 motor will also mount an HTPN20 motor. The only dimensional difference is that the motor can on the HTPN20 is 4.5 mm shorter than the PN30 motor can.

For designs that support or secure that black motor caps, after the transition from PN30 to HTPN20 the 4.5mm gap can be filled with hot glue or spacers.
