After extensive research, testing, prototyping, and real-world abuse, we developed a wheel system designed to solve one of the most common drivetrain problems: secure wheel retention that’s still easy to use.

The Turnabot Collet Wheel System was engineered to meet the following goals:

  • Easy installation, even for children

  • Extremely secure clamping to the driveshaft

  • Removable when desired

  • Reusable many times

The image in the section below shows a real 6 kg (13.2 lb) weight being held by the wheel. The wheel was not damaged, remained fully functional, and was easily removed and reinstalled afterward.

Designed for Strength and Accessibility


A typical middle-school student can tighten the collet enough that most people—and opposing robots—cannot remove the wheel without loosening it first.

A typical adult can tighten the collet to the point where it is more likely the motor mount will fail before the wheel comes off.

Despite this strength, the system remains simple, intuitive, and classroom-friendly.


What’s Included (A Pair and a Spare)

Each order includes:

  • 3 wheels

  • 3 collets

  • 1 installation tool

This “pair and a spare” setup ensures you have a backup ready after a hard match.


Tire Compatibility and Weight

  • 14 mm wheels are designed for:

    • 24 mm × 14 mm tires

    • 30.4 mm × 14 mm tires

    • Weight: 2 g (wheel and collet)


  • 22 mm wheels are designed for:

    • 37 mm × 22 mm tires

    • Weight: 6 g (wheel and collet)
